Residents engage in food waste recycling plans at Gloucester Court
Residents at Gloucester Court in Plymouth (PL1 5EJ) recently took part in a productive and informative session with the Plymouth City Council Waste and Recycling team to discuss the upcoming introduction of food waste recycling. The morning provided an opportunity for residents to ask questions, share thoughts, and learn more about how the new system will work.
The response from residents was overwhelmingly positive, with lots of thoughtful questions raised throughout the discussion. Many were particularly encouraged to hear that collected food waste will be processed to generate renewable energy, helping to reduce waste while supporting more sustainable energy solutions.
One resident summed up the mood perfectly, throwing his hands in the air and saying, “This is fantastic news – I’m so pleased the waste will be used to make renewable energy.”
We were very grateful to PCC for taking the time to visit and speak directly with residents. The introduction of food waste recycling represents a positive step forward in promoting environmental sustainability, while also supporting the community to adopt more responsible waste practices.
Gloucester Court is not included in the first wave of the new waste system, but PCC will return or make contact closer to the planned rollout in Spring/Summer. Ahead of this, residents will receive appropriate food waste caddies and external bins to support the change.
If you need assistance with your food waste system, please contact your Housing Officer.
To ensure ongoing engagement, PCC will be invited back after the rollout to answer any further questions and encourage participation. Feedback will also continue to be gathered during regular resident drop-in sessions.
