Agatha celebrates 25 years in Weston-Super-Mare community
Agatha Willams has called Plumley Court in Weston-Super-Mare home for 25 years. The scheme is a 41-home community run by LiveWest for people aged over 55.
Many residents have moved there through the Seaside and Country Homes mobility scheme, which supports people to downsize from larger homes in London to smaller properties in coastal or rural locations.
Originally from South Africa, Agatha says she has built a life she loves by the sea.
Agatha said: “We are quite a close-knit community here, I’ve lived here half my life so a very long time.
“We look after one another, especially when someone isn’t well, and there’s always something going on.”
With the beach on her doorstep and easy access to local amenities, Agatha values both the location and the independence it offers.
She said: “My life is here now. I’ve made friends and created a home, so I want to stay and enjoy it.”
“Sometimes I will get the bus into town for a cup of tea and then come back home. It’s simple things like that which make such a difference.”
Agatha also credits LiveWest with helping her find the right home.

She said: “We looked at lots of places before moving here. Some felt too small or uncomfortable, but when I saw this flat, I knew it was right.
“I’ve got a beautiful balcony overlooking the sea, which is absolutely fabulous. I really do love it here, you feel safe, and that’s so important.”
Community life plays a big role in her day-to-day routine, from organised social activities to informal gatherings.
She says these moments bring real value, particularly when they bring residents together with younger people and by LiveWest Community Connectors.
“In the summer, we sit outside in the garden, have a cup of tea and chat”, she said. “I also play skittles with a close friend, so we keep busy.
“We’re all retired, so it’s lovely when younger people or staff join us. They bring a different energy, it’s fun.”
For Agatha, it’s the combination of friendship, and surroundings that makes Plumley Court special a special place to live.
She added: “I know everyone here, and we look after each other. That makes such a difference. I’ve got good friends, a lovely flat, and a beautiful garden, everything here is just wonderful.”
