Keys handed over to Callington Youth Project
We recently attended the official opening of The Vault Youth Club in Callington. Run by Callington Youth Project, this was made possible after they were able to buy the building. To help them meet the funding criteria, we contributed £500 towards activities. The space will give a brilliant opportunity for young people and everyone involved.
Working with Cornwall Council to tackle tenancy fraud
We work with different organisations to tackle tenancy fraud, which involves providing false information to gain a property, subletting a property or not using a social housing property as your main home.
We take tenancy fraud very seriously and in the vast majority of cases it involves partnership work with organisations, the police and councils to put things right. We support our residents and our communities to keep residents safe.
Some recent successful partnership working with Cornwall Council resulted in a resident pleading guilty to tenancy fraud. The case was brought following an investigation by Cornwall Council’s Fraud team on behalf of LiveWest.
The case involved a man in Barnstaple in Devon who was ordered to pay almost £6,000 in compensation and court costs after a guilty plea to tenancy fraud.
Debbie Waller, Area Housing Manager for LiveWest said: “Through close partnership with Cornwall Council’s Fraud team we have addressed this case of tenancy fraud.
“Our priority is to provide safe, secure homes for people who need them, and we will take action where tenancy agreements are breached. This underlines the importance of strong partnership working to help us protect affordable housing for those who need it most.”
