2025 community wrap-up: Devon
It’s been a busy 2025, with several projects across the area improving shared spaces, supporting sustainability and bringing residents together. Here’s a round-up of some of the key activities.
Cycle storage at Bell Court, Exeter
Our Community Connector, Lesley Browne, is working with Bell Group on a social value project to provide new cycle storage at Bell Court. As the site is located within a conservation area, a pre-planning application is currently being submitted. Subject to approval, this will result in a secure cycle store, offering a valuable and practical resource for residents who cycle or would like to in the future.
Landscaping improvements at Alder Drive, Exeter
Landscape improvements are progressing at Alder Drive following a consultation event with residents. Feedback highlighted that ball games currently dominate the green spaces and that children would benefit from a landscape designed to encourage more imaginative and creative play. The first phase of work is expected to begin this month. This will be followed by interactive workshops where children and parents can help design and shape the spaces, transforming them into more enjoyable areas for everyone.
Repurposing for sustainability
A long-running community compost project at Arena Park Estate in Exeter is coming to an end due to changes in city green waste and food waste collections. As a result, the composting process is no longer viable. The hotbox compost bins are being donated to a community garden group in Cranbrook, ensuring they continue to support sustainable growing elsewhere.
Community Gardening Day in Barnstaple
Residents at Rackfield Court came together for a successful community gardening day, improving shared outdoor areas through planting, clearing and recycling. The group plans to continue maintaining the garden, with new planters and planting planned once the weather improves.
