Stay safe from winter fuel payment scams
We want to help everyone stay safe and scam-free this winter. Some people have been getting texts, emails, or phone calls pretending to be from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) about the Winter Fuel Payment or Cost of Living support.
These messages might ask for your bank details or tell you to click a link to claim your payment. Please don’t - it’s a scam.
Here’s what to remember:
- The real Winter Fuel Payment is paid automatically if you’re eligible — you don’t need to apply or give any details.
- The DWP will never ask for your bank or personal information by text or email.
- If you’re unsure, pause before you click or reply.
What to do if you get a suspicious message:
- Don’t click on any links and don’t give out personal details.
- You can forward scam texts to 7726 (it’s free).
- To check what’s genuine, contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre on their website or call 0800 731 0160.
- If you think you’ve been targeted by a scam, contact Action Fraud on their website or call 0300 123 2040.
As always, you can contact our Customer Service team if you have any concerns.
