We are aware of significant disruption following high winds caused by Storm Goretti. This is affecting areas across the region, particularly Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and parts of Devon.
There are widespread issues with travel, utilities supply and damage, so take care and contact the emergency services if you need to.
Reporting repairs
To make sure we can help our customers most affected stay safe, we are only taking emergency repairs by phone. View which repairs are an emergency.
If you have a repair which isn’t an emergency, please use our customer portal to let us know about these.
Supporting our customers
The safety of our customers is our priority.
For our customers with a disability or if you are vulnerable, please contact your supplier, as there may be extra support that can be offered.
Keep an eye on Cornwall Council’s website for updates on the support they may be offering. You can also find more about their Winter Support, as well as a community hub map.
Water, gas and electric
There are reports of loss of water, gas and electric across the region. In some cases, utility providers are advising these may not return until Sunday 11 January.
Please contact your provider if you have lost water, gas or electric, as they will be responsible for fixing this, not LiveWest. Your provider may not be aware of all issues in the region, so getting in touch can help to make sure these are fixed as soon as possible.
- South West Water – to report a water leak, phone the leak reporting hotline on 0800 230 0561. You can keep an eye on latest updates on their website.
- National Grid – to report a power cut, phone 105 or 0800 6783 105. View the National Grid live power cut map.
- Wales and West Utilities – if you smell gas, phone 0800 111 999. You can search for updates in your area. If you have gas issues this may be due to power cuts. This can mean boilers or heating systems are not able to run, rather than your gas supply being out.
Fallen trees
We are getting a lot of calls about fallen trees and branches, particularly across Cornwall. To help us prioritise keeping customers safe and make sure our teams can bring the right tools to make things safe, please only contact us about trees if it is an emergency.
You can call or email us, attaching photos and confirming whether access is blocked. We will clear fallen trees and branches as soon as possible, based on priority. We understand phone signal may be impacted in some areas.
For any emergencies, please email all details (including photos and location information) to trees@livewest.co.uk.
If you have damage to your car, this is an insurance issue and you will need to report it through your insurer.
Staying safe during outages
We know utility outages can make heating, cooking and having light difficult, so please be careful if you’re finding alternative ways to do these. If you are struggling, please keep an eye for information from your local council on support.
Candles can be great for providing light if you have no power. To stay safe, never leave these unattended, make sure they’re put out before going to sleep and never leave by curtains or anything that could catch alight.
You may have a gas stove, like for camping, that you want to use for cooking. These should never be used inside as they can put you at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, especially if windows or doors aren’t open. They can also be a fire risk.
If you have previously had a way to burn solid fuel in your house that is now boarded up, like a chimney, you should not attempt to reopen these for use.
If you have no electric power, when this comes back on your fire alarm may sound. This is normal and should stop after a short time.
