'Stay Put' Evacuation Strategy
The building is designed to contain a fire in the flat or area where it starts. This is called compartmentation. It means the walls, floors, and doors around each flat help stop fire and smoke from spreading to other parts of the building.
If firefighters need to tackle a fire in the building, some smoke may move into the corridors or stairwell while they work. If you leave your flat at this time, you may come across smoke before it has been cleared.
You should only leave your flat and the building if:
- Smoke or heat is coming into your home, or
- You feel unsafe at any time
Always use the stairs, not the lift. If the Fire and Rescue Service ask you to evacuate, please follow their instructions straight away.
How to keep yourself safe
- Familiarise yourself with the layout of the building and where the staircases and emergency exits are located
- Keep fire doors closed.
- Keep hallways, stairs and exits clear.
- Keep us updated around your ability to evacuate your building.
If you think you might need extra help in the event of a fire, please let us know. We can carry out an assessment for vulnerable customers who may need extra help. This is known as a Person-Centred Fire Risk Assessment (PCFRA).

It also provides recommendations for LiveWest to follow if further safety measures are needed to prevent, control, or reduce the effects of a fire.
Because the full FRA is a detailed and technical document, we have summarised the key information for you in a simple, easy to read format. Click here to read more.

Resident Engagement Strategy
LiveWest has a resident engagement strategy for high risk buildings so that residents are kept informed, listened to, and involved in keeping their homes safe.
These buildings require extra safety checks, and it is important that residents understand what is happening, why it matters, and how they can raise concerns.
Having a clear engagement strategy is also a legal requirement under the Building Safety Act, which says residents must be given clear safety information and a say in building safety matters.
This approach helps LiveWest share information in ways that work for different people, listen to residents’ views, and work together to improve safety and confidence in their building.
