Supporting people to reach their potential through apprenticeships

As one of the largest employers in the South West, creating pathways and developing our colleagues’ careers is a key priority for us.
National Apprenticeship Week

We are proud of the career progression, apprenticeships and qualifications we offer, which helps grow our colleagues’ careers and build our organisation.

As part of National Apprenticeships Week, an annual campaign backed by the Government, we are celebrating our diverse range of apprentices and the growth of our organisation.

This year’s ‘Skills for Life’ theme for the 17th National Apprenticeships Week provides us with an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our apprentices and the positive impact they have on our communities.

It will also reflect how our apprenticeships can help individuals develop their skills and qualifications for their career journey.

The week-long celebration, starting on 5 February, will shine a light on the fantastic work being carried out by employers and apprentices across the country.

At LiveWest we appreciate the full value of apprenticeships and their roles to help more people pursue their chosen career path, whether it be in the trade industry, sales, finance or development.

Currently, we have 48 apprentices in our programmes ranging from Level 2 in plumbing to Level 7 Senior Leader MBA, with a variety of levels and specialisms in between.

Of those 48 apprenticeships, 30 are new to LiveWest while the remaining 18 are colleagues which have chosen to advance their careers and upskill.

During this week we’ll be celebrating some our apprentices across LiveWest and hearing more about their journeys and the support they have received along the way.

Our People Skills Development Adviser, Laura Sanders, said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic way of fostering talent.

“This week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate all past and present apprentices for their continued progression and dedication go their roles.

“At LiveWest, we encourage lifelong learning, and an apprenticeship is an excellent way of achieving career progression and motivation for individuals.

“We are extremely proud of what our apprentices have achieved and what they bring to our organisation.

“As well as allowing people to gain valuable skills while they earn a wage, apprenticeships also allow people to gain new qualifications and further their career.

“We are also keen to showcase that you don’t have to be a school leader at the start of your career to sign up to an apprenticeship. An apprenticeship is for anyone at any time of their career.

“By investing in our apprentices, we are supporting the creation of future leaders and providing a platform for new ideas to thrive.”

Women in Trades

Running alongside our drive to develop careers for the future, we are also proud to be running a Women in Trades campaign designed to encourage more women to pursue a career in trade.

We currently have 24 women working across a number of trades, which equates to over 5% of our total trades’ workforce.

And we have plans in place to bring more women into our trades operation later this year through our taster days, which will open up more opportunities across the organisation.

Liane Sheppard, Director of Property Services for LiveWest, said: “Women are not well represented in skilled trades, and we have taken steps to address that by giving them opportunities at LiveWest.

“We have some great female role models already working across our trades, but we want more.

“We want to empower more women to pursue a trades career.”

“We will be advertising for our next group of apprentices over the next few months and will ensure that we are inclusive in our recruitment.”
