Supporting Alzheimer’s Society by cycling up to 120 miles in charity cycle ride

Our keen colleague cyclists have been busy fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society South West by cycling en masse across Devon.
LiveWest Charity Cycle Ride Group

On Friday 12 July three teams set out from our head office in Skypark Exeter.

The difficult routes included a 120 mile circum-navigation of Dartmoor, a shorter 65 mile route over the moor, and a 30 mile ride along the cycle paths of East Devon. The challenge has raised over £3,500 so far.

Andy Hart Director of Corporate Finance at LiveWest, said: “We are delighted to be raising money for our charity of the year which is the largest and most influential dementia charity in the UK. We promote a cycle scheme to staff and encourage cycling to work, so we're pleased that the challenge attracted both experienced and new riders. We were so proud to have achieved such distances.”

The South West has the highest number of people living with dementia in the West, however, it also has the lowest diagnosis rate.

Alzheimer’s Society provides local support for families living with dementia across the South West, including activity groups, Memory Cafes, Singing for the Brain groups and a Dementia Support service.

They also provide telephone support and advice, campaign for better dementia care and fund vital research into both cure and care, some of which is taking place at the University of Exeter

Claire Frost, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society in Devon, Cornwall, and the Isles of Scilly said: “Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer – someone develops dementia every three minutes, with one million expected to develop the condition by 2021. We are hugely grateful that LiveWest is rising to the huge challenge it poses by uniting with Alzheimer’s Society throughout 2019 and organising this fantastic cycle ride as part of their fundraising. Sadly, dementia devastates lives, but every pound raised by the LiveWest team will help Alzheimer’s Society provide vital information and support, improve care, fund research and create lasting change for people affected by the condition.”
