Our Supported Housing team receive recognition for the work it provides from the Royal family.

Mandy Martin, Area Manager for Supported Housing in Cornwall, and Sarah Bright, Team Manager for Supported Complex Needs Services in Cornwall, were recently invited by the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall to attend a garden party at Boconnoc House and Estate in Cornwall.

When Prince Charles and Camilla arrived, everybody stood for the National Anthem and guests were then assembled in small groups so the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall could meet guests.

Mandy and Sarah were introduced by a Deputy Lieutenant to Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, who asked more about the work LiveWest do across the area to support people.

Mandy said: “It was such a lovely day and we felt privileged to get the opportunity to go to the event. It was top secret that Prince Charles and Camilla would be coming but it was very exciting for us and to have them recognise the work we do was lovely.

“Camilla asked about our services, and we explained about the provision of supported housing in Cornwall.  She seemed to be well informed of the challenges and lack of provision for the homeless and those fleeing domestic abuse.  She was impressed by the commitment from LiveWest to support people.”

Prince Charles gave a speech and cut a cake to commemorate a milestone 70 years as the Duke of Cornwall.

Over 500 people attended with the other guests being from a variety of organisations who work with vulnerable people or provide support services to various groups in Cornwall.

Mandy said: “I appreciate that they meet literally thousands of people every year who work in similar roles to us, but Camilla was truly sincere in thanking us for the work that we do in Cornwall.

“She seemed impressed with the variety of services we provide and the commitment of the team to the people and the job even when situations can be very challenging.”
