Couple overjoyed with ‘best move’ so far with new home in Cornwall

The 100 per cent affordable development is situated in a town where there is high demand for homes.

Our residents, Ann and Kev, are thrilled to have been offered their ideal home with stunning countryside views in a new development on the outskirts of Bodmin, Cornwall.

The couple were looking to downsize while remaining close to the town with a countryside offering if they could find it.

With Kev’s health priorities changing, the couple wanted to be in a community where they could enjoy a quiet location but not be too remote.

When the Westheath development started being built, they hoped it would be what they were looking for and were excited to secure a home there.

Kev, 68, said: “It’s been brilliant moving in here. It’s cut down the work because we haven’t needed to do anything. The best move I think we’ve made so far, we are really enjoying the place.

“It’s beautiful, it has lovely views and it’s a great house. We are in the countryside, but we have the railway station too and we can watch the sunsets.”

The 100 per cent affordable development is situated in a town where there is high demand for homes.

The scheme, in partnership with Vistry, has 45 homes - 37 affordable rent and eight shared ownership, with some of the scheme having a local connection criteria.

Ann said: “I love living here, we’ve got lovely views and it’s quiet. It’s very efficient, I’ve just had my bills halved for my electric and gas so it’s warm and cosy which is brilliant.

“It’s the first time we’ve really been able to make somewhere our own. LiveWest have really listened to us and we haven’t had that before.”

Grant funding was allocated through Homes England with all the homes having an environmentally friendly focus.

This included EV chargers and solar panels, in line with our Cby28 programme, which aims to provide more energy efficient homes fit for the future.

Kev added: “LiveWest has been brilliant, we haven’t had any problems there and they’ve told us everything we’ve wanted to know, and any questions have been answered.

“We walk into our home and it’s warm where previously, we would be putting the heating on all day long, but we are not having to do that now.

“We can start using the solar panels now with the sunnier weather and further down the line, really start seeing the difference.”
