Carol reflects on our environmental approach as we retrofit her home

Carol Harris is thankful for her bungalow's new Cby28 retrofit improvements.

Carol Harris is delighted with her bungalow’s eco-friendly transformation to help the environment and reduce the costs of her energy bills.

As part of our Cby28 project, we fitted new solar panels, insulation and an easy-to-follow smart meter in Carol’s home to improve the property’s energy performance and continue to help our planet.

Carol stated: “We have got to look after our environment, or we are going to be in trouble. This is little steps, and I am very grateful for being involved in it.

“I think LiveWest has been quite amazing with their environmentally friendly approach. I think we should all be out for eco-friendliness as much as we can.”

To take one step further to achieve our goal of being Net Zero by 2050, we invested £45m into our Cby28 project to retrofit some of our homes.

This ensures 8,000 of our worst energy-performing properties will at least have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) C rating, two years before the government’s deadline.

We want to create sustainable and environmentally friendly homes and encourage greener futures together while reducing people’s energy bills.

Carol said: “I am so grateful. I can’t believe it. I feel very lucky, and I appreciate it ever so much.

“We had scaffolding up and goodness knows what, so it was quite trying for a day or two, but I was just so thrilled to be getting it done!

“I think LiveWest’s approach has been amazing with the speed of their work and for getting it done as soon as possible.

“The workmen were brilliant and LiveWest rang to double check that everything was alright. I found them all very supportive. They really were."

Carol has already noticed a change to her energy consumption since she gotten her retrofit improvements in her home she has already noticed a change to her energy consumption, compared to when she moved in 12 years ago.

She reflected on her new solar panels, which were fitted just in time for the summer sun, and her change of routine with her smart meter.

“At lunchtimes when the sun is out, I do all my washing and tumble drying. My smart meter does not change and so the solar panels are taking over.”

Despite being unsure of their impact on dark and dreary winter days, she is still confident her new insulation will already make her home a warmer place to be alongside her heaters which were fitted before the Cby28 project was launched.

“I’m hoping when the winter weather comes in, it will make a massive difference.”
