Update March 2021: Recruitment for our new Resident Panel has now closed. We were very pleased by the high level of interest from residents and received more applications than we expected which we are now reviewing. It means the first meeting will take place later than originally planned, and is likely to be in April 2021. We will inform all applicants of the outcome by the end of March.”

Recruitment for the Housing Ombudsman’s new Resident Panel has opened. The aim of this group is to create a stronger resident voice by seeking input and feedback from residents to develop plans.

This will be a virtual panel initially, made up of around 100 residents from a selection of landlords in the Housing Ombudsman Scheme. There will be a mix of residents reflecting the different types, size and location of landlords within the scheme.

The panel will meet online twice a year to discuss key areas of work such as the development of their annual business plan and their three-year corporate plan.
In addition, there will be opportunities to take part in smaller group activities.

These won’t look at individual complaints but could include discussions on topics such as residents’ experience of using the service or investigating issues arising through complaints.

The panel is part of the Housing Ombudsman’s overall aim to be open and accessible and engage widely with both residents and landlords to share knowledge and learning.

Sharon Cresswell, our LiveWest Customer Experience Manager said: ‘’The Housing Ombudsman is looking for 100 customers from several landlords to join their Resident Panel which will help develop their service. This is a great opportunity our customers to use their experience and insight to support this work.  Being able to influence the annual business plan, corporate plan and discuss complaint learning will ensure that the Housing Ombudsman Service meets the needs of its customers now and in the future.”

The closing date to apply is 25 February 2021 and a provisional date has been set for the first virtual meeting to take place on 23 March 2021.
