Over 150 young people across Somerset enjoyed a series of free activity sessions thanks to local housing providers LiveWest, Magna Housing, and Abri.
Located in Chard, Bridgwater, Highbridge and Yeovil, the two-hour sessions ran over four weeks and were open to everyone between the ages of 9 and 18 years old.
Designed to offer a safe and welcoming space for play and socialising, this project helped bring communities together and gave families a free and local option for fun activities.
Shona Stone, Community Connector at LiveWest, said: “It’s been brilliant to work across so many locations in Somerset and meet so many young people.
“These sessions gave families a chance to enjoy free activities close to home and helped strengthen community connections.
“It’s a great example of how housing providers can collaborate to support residents and create positive experiences for young people.”
Fun activities, ran by SASP (Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership), included a variety of different sports, using the wide-open spaces each location had to offer.
Residents were encouraged to attend by their housing providers, who worked together to ensure the sessions were accessible and inclusive.
LiveWest donated £1,300 to the project through its social value funding - Abri and Magna also donated towards the project to help ensure it would succeed.
This joint effort ensured the sessions were free for families and could reach as many young people as possible.
The success of the initiative highlights the importance of partnership working to create vibrant and connected communities.
By offering community sessions like these for young people to come together, stay active, and have fun, the project has left a lasting positive impact across Somerset —building on the success of our previous activity project in Somerset alongside Minehead Eye.
