A residents story about dealing with debt

How our services helped Mrs Peters become Money Ready
A residents story

Mrs Peters is a mum of three children from Taunton. When she faced court action for high rent arrears, she contacted our team for help.

Like many others, Mrs Peters situation was complicated. She wasn’t just behind with her rent. Her limited budget meant she was struggling with other payments and could see no way out.

Mrs Peters first problem was the rent she owed. One of our Tenancy Sustainment officers helped her apply for a Discretionary Housing Payment, which reduced her debt by £500. They then helped her look at her income and work out a budget for her other payments.

Finally, to make sure things stayed on track in her future, they put Mrs Peters in touch with Taunton Area Debt Advice. The team helped her renegotiate her debt repayments so they were more affordable.

Mrs Peters is much happier now. She knows that the roof over her family’s head is secure again. She’s not being chased for unpaid debt and she’s empowered to manage her money well. Mrs Peters can get on with her life. A very good outcome!
