This includes ethical loans from credit unions, grants to help pay bills or for extra support for people with disabilities, or just advice on how to make everyday savings.

Mental health support

If you are struggling with your mental health or need emotional support, there are services and organisations that can help.

Citizens Advice offer a range of support, including on energy and dealing with the cost of living.

Credit unions can offer affordable loans, savings accounts and financial wellbeing information. We partner with Westcountry Savings & Loans, however you can also find a local credit union to help you.

Scope provide free advice and support to people with disabilities and their families.

Money Saving Expert is a consumer website offering support and advice around saving money, finding deals and understanding your rights.

Family Fund is a charity that provides grants for families raising disabled or seriously ill children and young people.

British Gas Energy Trust is an independent charitable trust that supports families and individuals struggling to pay their energy bills, and is available to anyone regardless of their energy provider. 

Stop Loan Sharks can provide support for anyone who has borrowed money from an illegal money lender. 

Simple Energy Advice offers impartial and independent advice on a range of topics around energy, including reducing your bills and making your home greener. 

If you are struggling to pay your water bills, your water supplier may have financial help available. This could include payment plans, debt support schemes, bill caps or reducing your bills.

Next Meal is able to direct you to nearby centres which can provide free food if you are struggling financially and unable to afford to buy food. 

Shopping around for your energy and phone tariffs can help you to save some money, with it being common for people to pay more than they need to. Additionally, if you are on Universal Credit then you can get a social tariff, which is cheaper than normal tariffs.
