One Year On, LiveWest Bursary Continues to Develop Local Football Skills

18 July 2018

Twelve months ago, LiveWest helped to fund an academy for aspiring young goalkeepers in Plymouth which has gone from strength to strength ever since.

The Sam Doel Goalkeeper Academy has successfully trained several young people from playing at a local level to being put through to trials for major football club academies including Chelsea, Exeter City, and Plymouth Argyle. One of their players has even been selected for the England Cerebral Palsy Youth Squad.

A LiveWest grant secured a 3G football pitch and the equipment Sam needed to train his students in any weather.

Sam Doel, owner of Sam Doel Goalkeeping Academy said: “Within the last 12 months, we have provided goalkeeper coaching to over 70 different young people, with sessions being held weekly and our average number of around 18 players per week.

As a coach, I am so proud that they have achieved so much in such a small amount of time and we have really improved the lives of so many young people too!”

The Academy runs every Thursday evening in Plymouth at All Saints Academy 3G Pitch from 7.30pm to 9 pm, costing £3.50 per person.
