Latest group of Construction Skills Academy students successfully gain construction qualifications
Well done to the latest group of students who have completed our most recent Galliford Try Skills Academy course at the upcoming joint venture, Plymouth Community Homes development in Bamfylde Way, Plymouth. The academy is an initiative designed to encourage LiveWest customers to work in the construction industry through job opportunities such as work placements, full-time work, and apprenticeships. In total 19 LiveWest customers completed the course where they gained their Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards and Health and Safety qualifications
The Skills Academy has been made possible thanks to partnership work between Galliford Try Partnerships, LiveWest and The Working Skills Training Academy of Cornwall College, offering a two-week training course, developed by The Work Skills Academy to give learners basic theoretical and practical training on a live construction site, as well as career advice.
Justine Cheffers, LiveWest Community Development Worker said: ''The Galliford Try Skills Academy aims to up-skill our customers and helps them to find employment afterward. LiveWest worked with Galliford Try at Bamfylde Way where students gained experience at a brand new housing development. We have seen an impressive success rate and are hopeful that a number of students will move into employment or apprenticeships in the construction industry after completing the course. In the meantime, our customers will continue to be supported by our Community Investment team through our helpful virtual work hub service.''
