St Erth Community Primary School identified an overgrown area within the school grounds which would be an ideal location for a forest school location. The school had been working with an external forest school provider before this time but knew having one on site would allow them to extend provision to students and for longer periods of time.
We provided grant funding of £1,000 towards this project, which the school to used towards the cost of creating the forest school.
We also provided eight LiveWest colleague volunteers to support the school with the initial clearance of overgrown weeds.
We also were able to get a social value contribution from our grounds and landscaping partner, Glendale Services who also helped with clearing the land for the setup of the forest school.
Forest school offers learners opportunities to develop confidence and self-esteem through hands on education in a woodland or natural outdoor environment.

It was damp and very muddy when we chose to clear the ground, but a great day was had by all. Cornwall Groundforce, the school’s grounds maintenance contractor were amazing, and project managed us over both days. Also, I don’t think we would have made as much progress without our LiveWest colleague volunteers. Well done everyone!’’
